Public swimming in the Charles River takes place for the first time in more than 50 years.

July 13, 2013

Sponsored by the Charles River Conservancy, the swim takes place from the boat dock near the Hatch Shell. Although approved by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, swimmers are warned not to come in contact with the deposits along the river bottom. Swimming had been prohibited in the Charles River since the 1950s. The public swim subsequently becomes an annual event.
